Hanging out in Hongdae

Songdong Cabaret, “A famous place for dancing

At Club FF, Look & Listen, made up of JeongMin (vocal/guitar), YunMin (drums), and MiSook (bass), plays punk/garage music influenced by ‘mama guitar’ and ‘the 5, 6, 7, 8’s’. They are still pretty new in the scene, so they get a kick out of meeting new fans. As they sing their upbeat songs, the crowd goes crazy.

The Pony has a hot rock n’ roll sound that appeals to the young hipster crowd. SangMin (vocals), WonJun (guitar), SeungBo (bass) and WooSuk (drums) have already become an idol band in the Hongdae indie music scene.

In Hongdae, there has been a movement by people who want to hold new, fresh and interesting events. A few of my friends put on this event called Festen in a really old night club, Songdong Cabaret. They wanted people to have a crazy night at this venue where everything was strangely decorated with 80’s stuff. The theme for the party was simply paper, and people got dressed up with newspapers, hats, and masks. The main floor was covered with 750kg of shredded Korean newspaper.
“Festen is a glorious celebration of all that is visually explosive and exciting. An event where emphasis is equally spread between music and the grand tradition of the show. …This is not a regular event and may never happen again.”

We danced, we watched, and we made art out of the mess. This is Hongdae, where the people make this scene special.
That’s why this place is so alive.
